Reading Round-Up May We asked everyone in the office to talk about their favorite books from last month. Take a look at our favorite reads from May, and let us know in the comments which books you’ll be adding to your to-read list. From graphic novels to fantasy, there’s something for everyone here! The Book Thief by Markus Zusak Page count: 552 Genre: Historical Fiction Publish date: 2006 I started off the month with this delightful, impactful, and downright beautiful read. I started it the way I start most books- that is to say, I went in without a clue about the plot simply because I heard the book is good- and fell in love with Zusak’s word craft and creative narrative style. The Book Thief is narrated by Death himself, but it is done so in a tactful, poetic, and very much not-creepy way. He tells the story of a young German girl and her family during World War II. Unlike other Holocaust stories I’ve read, the novel focuses on a non-Jewish family. Growing up and learning about World War II, it’s hard not to get desensitized to the topic. Zusak made it real again by showing us a glimpse of the daily lives of an everyday family just trying to do the right thing. The Book Thief is a haunting, yet touching, tale that everyone needs to read at least once. - Kate, Marketing Coordinator Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett Page count: 228 Genre: Fantasy Publish date: 2005 Thanks to Sam’s thoughtful recommendation, this month I read Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett. In a world named â€Å"Bad Ass,† wizards can only be men and witches can only be women- that is, until Eskarina Smith comes along. Nine-year-old Esk breaks the stereotypes on her journey to becoming the world’s first female wizard. With the help of her strong-willed, sassy grandmother, Granny Weatherwax, Esk embarks on a fantastical adventure to seek her destiny. Terry Pratchett crafts a hilarious, charming narrative that rings with relevance over thirty years after its original publication. I highly recommend this read to anyone looking to escape our current reality and indulge in a magical universe where feminine power rules. Plus, if your reading experience is anything like mine, you’ll adopt Granny Weatherwax as your bossy new muse. Shed be a witch and a wizard, too. And she would show them. - Savannah, Social Media Manager Naked by David Sedaris Page count: 304 Genre: Humor; Memoir Publish date: 1998 If you, too, are also a student in the throes of midterms and finals, I would highly recommend reading one (or more) of David Sedariss collections of short stories. They are a dose of positivity for me, perfect for a quick read between classes, during breaks from homework, or during commutes on the bus. If youre a fan of audio books, Sedaris’s voice adds to his distinctive comic style. His specialty- stories about family dynamics and idiosyncrasies- can give readers a comedic perspective on their own family dramas. Im a fan of short story collections, but even if youre not a regular short story reader, Naked is a good place to start. - Sophie, Editorial Intern â€Å"Liking What You See: A Documentary† by Ted Chiang Page count: 20 Genre: Science Fiction; Short Story Publish date: 2010 This month I read a sci-fi short story by Ted Chiang called â€Å"Liking What You See: A Documentary.† The story is formatted as the transcript of a documentary in which people are interviewed about an operation that prevents people from being able to perceive attractiveness. Essentially, those who get the operation are able to see everything as usual- except for physical beauty or its lack. The story follows a campaign at a university that tries to make this operation a requirement for all students. I found this story to be quite thought-provoking and entertaining to read. Considering a world without discrimination based on appearance is a fascinating concept, and I enjoyed reading about a society in which conventional beauty may no longer play a role in our interactions with one another. Chiang’s writing is fun and very readable, and he does a wonderful job of writing about this concept from multiple perspectives. - Mary, Editorial Intern Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett Page count: 496 Genre: Fantasy Publish date: 2003 That’s the trouble about the good guys and the bad guys! They’re all guys! Since I’ve been on a Terry Pratchett kick lately, my good friend lent me his favorite Pratchett novel, Monstrous Regiment. (Elegant and impressive choice, by the way, Jeff!) Monstrous Regiment is set in Pratchetts renowned Discworld, but the book itself is a stand-alone read- and a great initial foray for anyone new to this fantasy realm. Unfortunately, it’s pretty hard to write much of anything about this book without giving away serious spoilers, but if you enjoy books about gender and identity colliding with the topics of war, tradition, and religion- or, even, if you’re just a fan of the Disney movie Mulan- you’ll love this read. This endearing satire is one Im sure to revisit many, many times with half an onion and a pair of socks (just in case) in tow. - Sam, Marketing Manager The Letters of Vita Sackville-West to Virginia Woolf edited by Louise De Salvo and Mitchell Leaska Page count: 480 Genre: Nonfiction Publish date: 2004 This May, I read The Letters of Vita Sackville-West to Virginia Woolf, compiled and edited by Louise De Salvo and Mitchell Leaska. Going in, I knew only that Woolf and Sackville-West were lovers and that Sackville-West was the inspiration for Woolf’s novel Orlando, which features a gender-traversing protagonist. By the end, I was enraptured by the passionate, witty, and complicated love between these two brilliant women. Their letters, spanning nineteen years, are a mixture of poetic musings, society gossip, grand declarations of love, petty arguments, and day-to-day concerns. However, some of the most iconic and memorable exchanges stem from atheir mutual longing to simply spend more time together: I am reduced to a thing that wants Virginia. I composed a beautiful letter to you in the sleepless nightmare hours of the night, and it has all gone: I just miss you, in a quite simple desperate human way. –Vita Sackville-West, 1926 Look here Vita- throw over your man and I’ll tell you all the things I have in my head, millions, myriads- They won’t stir by day, only by dark on the river. Think of that. Throw over your man, I say, and come. –Virginia Woolf, 1927 - Marissa, Editorial Intern Meditations by Marcus Aurelius Page count: 303 Genre: Philosophy Publish date: 2006 Ive spent this May slowly reading through Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, in Gregory Hays’s 2002 translation. Many consider Meditations a source of Stoic wisdom and one of the most profound works of ethical reflection ever written. And its this latter part that most intrigues me; Im drawn to Marcus as a flawed human, writing down thoughts to himself as a way of processing his philosophy and struggling with his convictions. The best parts of Meditations are the passages in which he concerns himself with doing what is good, with doing what Nature- with that capital N- requires. Perhaps the most appealing parts of this book are how similar Marcuss concerns are to my own- even though were separated by nearly two thousand years. This is definitely a text Ill revisit more than once. - Wes, Project Manager My Brother’s Husband by Gengoroh Tagame Page count: 352 Genre: Graphic Novel; Manga Publish date: 2017 This month, on a recommendation from our local bookstore, the Elliott Bay Book Company, I started reading Gengoroh Tagame’s manga masterpiece My Brother’s Husband. Published in two omnibus editions, it’s the story of a single Japanese dad, named Yaichi, who receives a visit from Mike, the widowed husband of Yaichi’s estranged gay twin. While he initially invites Mike into his home with plenty of trepidation, Yaichi soon finds his ideas about sexual identity, family, and Japanese versus Western traditions expanding in the presence of this kindly Canadian in cargo shorts. Yaichi’s acceptance of Mike is helped along by his young daughter, Kana, who loves Mike instantly and only needs the briefest of explanations to understand that- at least where Mike comes from- boys can marry each other. (Learning that in Canada you can order tempura sushi comes as more of a shock!) I love the sweetness of this story and as well as the way Tagame doesn’t shy a way from exploring the painful moments that can arise when people look deeply into their own unexamined prejudices. In all, My Brother’s Husband is a feel-good read with a refreshingly calm pace; clean, expressive lines; and a moving degree of vulnerability in its characters. And while much of queer life remains under wraps in Japan (and for many in the US, too), Tagame’s manga- and its receipt of both American and Japanese literary awards- shows that things are slowly but surely changing for the better. - Jules, Editor

Lesson Plan on Present Perfect and Past Simple The switch between the present perfect and the past simple is one of the most challenging aspects for English learners. There are a few reasons for this: Students use a language - such as German, French or Italian - which uses its version of the past simple and the present perfect interchangeably.Students find the difference between specific past experience (past simple) and general experience (present perfect) difficult.Students speak a language in which tense usage is much more loose such as Japanese. This lesson focuses on the switch by first narrowing the choices down to either the present perfect or the past simple. It asks students to first ask questions about general experience with ever and then drill down to the specifics with question words such as where, when, why etc. Aim Becoming more proficient in switching between the present perfect and the past simple Activity Number 1 Asking about experiences # 2 Writing about experiences Level Lower-intermediate to intermediate Outline Begin the lessons by speaking about your own experiences in a general way. Be careful not to give any details about these experiences. In other words, keep to the present perfect. I find topics such as travel, education, and hobbies work well. For example: Ive been to many countries in my life. Ive traveled in Europe and Ive visited France, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. Ive also driven a lot in the United States. In fact, Ive driven through almost 45 states. Ask students to ask you questions about the specifics of some of your adventures. You may need to model this. However, students will hopefully be able to catch on fast and keep to the past simple. On the board, create a timeline showing past to present with some of your adventures. Put question marks above the general statements, specific dates above specific statements. Point out the difference between the two. You can use the ​tense time charts on this site as well. Introduce the question Have you ever ... for general experience. Review information questions in the past simple to focus on specific experiences. Model a few question-and-answer exchanges with students switching between Have you ever... followed by information questions When did you ..., Where did you ..., etc. when students answer in the affirmative.   Have students complete exercise one with partners or in small groups.   Moving around the class, listen to these conversations helping when necessary. To continue, ask students to fill in the worksheet following the example provided. Move around the room making sure students are switching between the present perfect and the simple past in writing. Exercise 1 Use the present perfect with Have you ever... to ask your classmates questions. When your partner answers yes, follow-up with information questions in the past simple. Own career development - Personal Statement Example I present in the remainder of this document, my recollections of how I ventured in to my vocation as a Guidance Counselor, comparing my specific case with theories of career development (Career Development, 2003). I conclude with inferences which I use for graduate students who seek my professional help. Informality has marked my progress towards the career. Theories which state that the value of work should be taught in the pre-school years (Career Development, 2003,) and that a relationship has to be made so early in life between education and a career, seem to escape my memory, if at all my parents subscribed to such concepts. This pattern continues as I reflect on my years in school, all the way from kindergarten to when I was ready for college. The post secondary education phase (Career Development, 2003) was an inflexion point for my career. Many of my peers sought vocational training at this time, and only a minority sought college education. We all tried our hands at odd jobs and assignments during this time, but I cannot recall even considering regular employment. This could have been because my family had more than adequate means to provide for my higher education. I do not recall much formal counseling even at this time, though teachers did speak well of my intellectual abilities and potential, and my parents let me know that they would support anything that I wished to do. My choice of college and course was determined largely by peer pressure, though it was all friendly and non-invasive. Adulthood as defined in career development theory (Career Development, 2003) was a defining phase for my career choice. My abilities and weaknesses came in to sharp focus at this time, and I developed a sense of urgency to earn enough to start a family of my own. An older sibling advised me strongly against directions suggested by counselors at college, and I recall being uncertain of which direction to take. I am not yet sure whether I made the right choice for my graduate education, though I am now happily reconciled to my professional situation as a Guidance Counselor. I understand career development theory to advocate a much earlier initiation in to formal planning, and a structured approach to counseling, almost from the inception of cognition (Career Development, 2003). I seem to have escaped with a more carefree child hood, and transited from home to kindergarten and from there to various Grades of school, in almost casual manner! I am not aware that I am much worse off for it, though the career development theory does make a lot of sense when I interact with many graduate students today. Influences Why might I have escaped rather lightly, even though my parents and school teachers did not implement the career development theories of today, during my student days, in structured and formal ways The reasons, on my reflection, seem to lie in strong influences under which I grew up. It may be that my memory is weak and I recall these influences without being able to relate them to formal counseling. Nevertheless, I find my recollections to be useful in understanding how I evolved in to becoming a Guidance Counselor. Cyber Squatting Essay In this paper I suggest tools and ways for internet users to escape from entering into fake WebPages due to spelling errors. Introduction Typo squatting is the purchase of a misspelled version of a popular domain name for the purpose of attracting visitors who make typographical errors when entering web addresses. This practice is a form of cyber squatting. Cybersquatters purchase domain names with the goal of trading on the popularity and fame of a trademark or company and in some cases have even managed to snap up domain names before a parent company has a chance to buy them. In the case of typosquatting, people take advantage of the fact that there are numerous potential misspellings of a domain that can crop up when people are typing in a hurry. If millions of people are visiting a website and even a small fraction make mistakes when they manually enter domain names, a typosquatter can profit. Typosquatters can buy domains with transposed letters, missing letters, or extra letters, like wiesgeek. com, wisgek. com, or wisege4ek. com. There are a number of things that a typosquatter can do with a domain. One option is to simply use the site as a redirect to the original domain, a trick used by some companies that buy some common misspellings of their domain names to cover their bases. Another option is to turn the domain into a link or ad farm, hoping that visitors will click on the contents and generate profits. Some creative typosquatters have used their misspelled domains for the purpose of political commentary or satire directed at the owner of the properly spelled domain. A more problematic practice occurs when typosquatters attempt to fool visitors. The typosquatting site may be designed to look a lot like the site the user intended to reach, tricking the user into thinking that he or she has landed in the right spot. Users might turn over confidential information, expose themselves to malware, or otherwise endanger themselves. Some typosquatters have targeted children with their websites by purchasing variations on domains commonly used by children, a practice that concerns law enforcement. Under the law, typosquatting is not necessarily illegal, although it can potentially be prosecuted under the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act of 1999 in the United States. If a typosquatter is clearly using a domain name for fraudulent or misleading purposes, the site can be viewed as a violation of the law. However, sites that simply take advantage of a misspelling to send a political message or even to serve ads are not necessarily illegal. While some companies are aggressive about typosquatting, the myriad possible variations on a domain name means that typosquatters can give up the site in question and move on to another typo. Domain Squatting Internet domains are registered, rather than bought and sold, and they are available on a first-come, first-served basis. These ground rules lay the foundation for the practice of domain squatting, also known as cybersquatting. A domain squatter registers a site not for his or her own use but with the idea that it can be sold at a profit. Cybersquatters acquire names in several ways. They may pick up domain names that become available after a bankruptcy or when a renewal registration fee isn’t paid. They may also follow people’s checks on domain name availability and purposefully register the name if there is a pause while the person makes a decision. Why the Labour Party Won the Election in 1945 The Labour Party won the general election in 1945, with Clement Attlee returning as Prime Minister. The state of play was that Labour has won 314 seats, the Conservatives 294. Socialism was not widely recognised until 1945. The majority of people were almost frightened by it. This was because Russia was a socialist state, promoting communism. When Russia proved to be a reliable alley during the war, socialism became less strange and was more approved of. The middle class citizens now started to vote socialism, they saw it as respectable. This therefore increased to amount of votes for labour. After the war, there was a mood for social change. This was because soldiers who came home from serving in the War came back to unemployment. They were promised a land fit for hero’s but instead came back to a depression. The 1930’s depression caused poverty in Britain and many citizens lost their job and became unemployed, the British public did not want to have go through this again. This caused for a change in government to see what a different party would offer the nation, to improve its chances of recovering now the war was over. The labour slogan was â€Å"Let us face to the future†, this slogan prompted forward thinking. Labour promoted the welfare state; this was made by written in the Beveridge report and labour made it specific in its manifesto. This meant families could receive the Allowances Act which would provide a regular sum for second and subsequent children to be paid to the mother. The National Health Service Act in order to provide a free and fully comprehensive health se... ...o† in power. This was the internal security police of Nazi Germany. The Nazis established the Gestapo in order to monitor and stamp out any political opposition to the Hitler regime. Under Heinrich Himmler, the Gestapo's powers became brutal and far-reaching in ferreting out Jews, Marxists, and even moderate critics of the regime. By referring the labour party to such a brutal regime it was not approved upon and lost creditability for the conservatives. Overall the actions of Winston Churchill and his decisions through the campaign cost them to loose the election to Labour. I believe that the conservative’s ways of campaigning and relying on gratitude from the British public for winning the war, lost them votes. I also believe that by trying to discredit the Labour party also lost them respect, which lost them votes.

It focuses on how to choose the right networking websites. Everyone knows how big social networking is for business owners these days. Social networking was originally intended to make it easier to maintain personal relationships, but businesses have made social networking a priority as well. Bucket List Destination

Our trip to Italy We were planning a trip, but we were not sure where to go. Our options were to go to Europe or South America. After checking prices and the offers we decided it was better to go to Europe. But we concentrated the trip only to Italy, because it seemed to be the best option for its history and food. We left from PR on a Saturday morning, next stop was NY City. At the airport we got chill at some bar and get ready for a lot of hours in a flight.At the airplane, as usual, we where boring, watching a lot of movies, eating bad food, and desperate to get at our destination. Finally, at Venice! Once we got there we take a bus that leave us close to the hotel, but like good pertinacious, we don't read or look at the map to see where was the exact location of the hotel. We walked for almost 2 hours to see where was the hotel. After walking under the rain and freezing we decided to ask where was our hotel. It was close to the bus station, only 5 minutes walking!!!We do the che ck in and took a little nap. I was so tire because of the flight. Every day we wake up at 8:00 a. M. To enjoyed the breakfast and after that walked all day to see the different museums and places in Venice. After a few day eating pasta and drinking wine I was looking forward to our next place, Florence! At Florence we walked like the airwoman race, a lot of miles to get to our destiny. It was the first time I used a train, a really fast train! It was awesome! We enjoyed the view of the place, the wineries, the houses, everything was pretty.When we where at Florence it was Easter celebration, we saw all the Catholic rituals and it was amazing to see all the people getting together to celebrated that holiday, a lot of people celebrating the same. As usual, we walked a lot every day. In the last day at Florence we got a reservation at Ditto's Restaurant to taste a Bisect Florentine, it was a piece of meat almost raw, so bloody and red, I can't eat it, but the owner was very nice. The n ext day went to Rome, my favorite destination in the entire trip.We saw the culture, the famous places, the Coliseum, it was really awesome. When I finally saw the Coliseum I can't describe what I felt. A lot of history in front of my eyes, I can't compared that experience to anything before. Origins of Nazi Racist Identity essays Racism was always an integral part of German National Socialism. The Nazi racist identity had three distinct but related aspects. These aspects were the German volk and the need for racial purity, Aryan supremacy and anti-Semitism. The first aspect of the Nazi racist identity was of the German volk and racial purity. This ideal had several origins, some of which dated back to the 18th Century. The German word Volk can be translated as people. However this word meant more to the German people. To them Volk meant the culture, essence, heritage, and value of the race. This was a result of the Romantic movement of the 18th Century and stressed the importance of all things associated with the soil and ultimately the ordinary rural people. In the 19th Century Johan Fichte, a German philosopher created ideas of pan-Germanism. His main idea was that the natural boundaries of a country lay within the races and that those who speak the same language were joined to each other by the bonds of nature. Any other people of different descent and language would upset the progress of the culture. Adolf Hitler adopted this idea also. "Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuhrer!" - one people, one empire, one leader. These ideas had a widespread and influential public support base firstly because the Treaty of Versailles had reduced the German Army to 100, 000 so Junker generals valued the army expansion offered by pan-Germanism and therefore the recovery of lost territory. The widespread resentment in Germany at the loss of territory from the Treaty, which was a dictat or dictated peace also contributed to the support base of the Nazi Party, who advertised the desire the right the wrongs of the Treaty of Versailles and aim for ultimate racial purity in Germany. 5-Step SAT/ACT Test Dates Study Plan for Summer Before Senior Year SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Your senior year is coming up, and you’re ready to blow those standardized tests out of the water once and for all. It’s time to figure out the best study plan for you that still leaves time for summer jobs, shameful levels of ice cream consumption, and acquiring incomprehensible tan lines. Follow these five steps to make the most of your summer studying before your SAT or ACT test date! Step 1: Determine Your Goal The first step in creating a study plan is knowing how much you need to improve.You can calculate your target scores for both the SAT and ACT based on your college admission goals. Google your college of choice and â€Å"SAT scores† or â€Å"ACT scores† to find the score range of the middle 50 percent of admitted applicants - in other words, a 25th percentile score and a 75th percentile score. Aim for the 75th percentile score (a better score than 75 percent of admitted applicants) to give yourself the best chance of being admitted. Then, take a practice test to see where you stand score-wise, or,if you’ve already taken the SAT or ACT at least once (hopefully you have!), you can use that score to judge how much you need to improve.Here are some links to free practice tests for the SAT and ACT if you feel you’ve improved significantly since the last time you took the tests and need to get a new baseline score. Step 2: Figure Out How Many Hours You Need to Study Now that you know your baseline and target scores, you can use the difference between them to estimate the number of hours you’ll need to study to achieve your goals by the time of your SAT/ACT test date. Here’s an estimated breakdown of point improvement per number of study hours for the SAT: 0-30 SAT Composite Point Improvement: 10 hours30-70 Point Improvement: 20 hours70-130 Point Improvement: 40 hours130-200 Point Improvement: 80 hours200-330 Point Improvement: 150 hours+ And here’s the same infofor the ACT: 0-1 ACT Composite Point Improvement: 10 hours1-2 ACT Point Improvement: 20 hours2-4 ACT Point Improvement: 40 hours4-6 ACT Point Improvement: 80 hours6-9 ACT Point Improvement: 150 hours+ Remember, these are rough estimates, which means they’re not necessarily going to apply to everyone. Step 3: Factor in Your Study Habits and Learning Style You now have a rough idea of how many hours you’ll need to put in, but you might need to study for more or less time based on how you process information and how focused you are. Here are some factors that might lead you to add or subtract study hours from your plan. You’ll Need to Study for More Time If ... You get distracted easily - If you have trouble focusing, you probably aren't getting as much out of your study time. Make sure you study in a quiet place with your phone turned off. If you find you can't focus on studying for hours at a time, stagger your time throughout each week rather than studying in big chunks. You struggle with running out of time on the test - The more comfortable you are with the test questions and their structure, the less stressed you'll be about time. You're less likely to psych yourself out if you've studied enough to feel comfortable with the test material. You take a while to learn from your mistakes - On standardized tests it can be difficult to accumulate knowledge about your mistakes and apply it to future scenarios. If you have particular difficulty with identifying and understanding your mistakes, you may need more study time. You've already studied a lot without much score improvement - In this case, it might be time to change study tactics and commit to more hours. Reevaluate how you've been studying. If you're just taking a bunch of practice tests and not really investigating your incorrect answers, you probably won't see much of an improvement in your scores. You’ll Need to Study for Less Time If ... You are a super focused studier- If you really get in the zone when you study, you might not need to set aside as much time. You don’t have difficulty finishing the sections with time to spare- Since you're comfortable enough with the questions to get through them all, you've already conquered one of the most troublesome aspects of the test. You learn from your mistakes right away - If all it takes for you to learn the right way to answer a question is to answer it wrong once, you probably don't need as much study time as the average person. You are new to the test- This one’s unlikely if you’re coming up on senior year, but even if you just haven’t studied a lot up to this point, it will be easier for you to make improvements quickly. Remember that literal osmosis is not a viable studying technique. Step 4: Spread Out Your Estimated Hours Based on Summer Plans and Summer and Fall Test Dates Now for the actual plan - you know approximately how many hours you need to study, but how will you fit them into your schedule? If you’re planning to take the SAT or ACT on the first test dates in the fall, you have until October 5, 2019, for the SAT and September 8, 2019, for the ACT. If you want to take a test at the end of the summer, the SAT is now also offered at the end of August (August 24, 2019), while the ACT is offered in the summer on July 13, 2019(except in CA and NY). Note that the tests are held at roughly the same time every year, so these dates should still be good benchmarks if you’re reading this later. From the start of the summer you’re looking at aboutthree months of study time, with a little extra time once the school year starts up again.It's a good idea to spread out your hours out as much as possible week by week so you don't get overwhelmed. Here are a couple examples of plans for different point improvements: I Want to Improve by 30-70 Points on the SAT or 1-2 Points on the ACT You have an estimated study time of 20 hours, which is easily manageable over the course of three months.Choose one to two hours a week that you will set aside for studying.By the end of the summer, you will accumulate at least 20 hours of study time. If you think you need to study for more than 20 hours, two hours a week for the summer will give you about 30 hours plus whatever study time you can fit in during the fall before your last shot at the test. I Want to Improve by 130-200 Points on the SAT or 4-6 Points on the ACT For this level of improvement, the estimated study time is 80 hours, so you’ll have to be slightly more disciplined. Try setting aside an afternoon once a week that you will devote to studying.Five hours a week for the whole summer will get you close to 80 hours.After that, if you feel you need more preparation, you can do a little more studying during the fall before the test. I Want to Improve by 200-330 Points on the SAT or 6-9 Points on the ACT You’re going to have to put in quite a bit of effort to see the improvements you’re looking for no matter how good your studying habits are.Studying for 150 hours or more in the summer is a tall order, but it’s not impossible. In this case, you should schedule10 hours a week for studying.It might sound like a lot, but think about it: it’s the time equivalent of less than two days of school and you have the option of being outside or sitting in a comfy chair in a cafe as you do it. Whatever Your Goals, It’s Not Too Late to Get Your Scores up to Speed! If you think you'll need more study time, you can also take the tests later in the fall.The SAT offers November and December test dates, and the ACT offers October and December test dates.If you're considering these dates, check with the admissions offices of the colleges where you plan on applying to see how late they accept scores. I recommend signing up for the first available fall test dates to see where you stand after all your summer studying. Also remember: if you think you should be studying more or if you don’t feel like you are getting anywhere with your current methods, it’s OK to change your plan.It can be critical to maintain flexibility in terms of study strategies if you want to see real improvement. Try to be honest with yourself about what you’re getting out of your time and whether you need to reevaluate your study habits and techniques. Isaac Newton is a great man - Research Paper Example Isaac Newton was born in Woolsthorpe, England in 1642 and grew up to be an authority in Mathematics, dynamics, celestial mechanics, astronomy, optics and philosophy (Newton). His life appears to have been influenced by the death of his father who died few months prior to Newton’s birth (English-Online). He took charge of his life early in his life, waiting on tables and doing menial jobs for wealthy students to pay for his school fees, which shows his great love for education. His mother had remarried and left him under the care of aged grandparents who could barely support him, but this did not deter his quest for learning. During his youth, he is known to have been interested in mechanical devices, doing many experiments and building many devices (Newton). He is known to have built a mill model, clocks and kites among other devices, which he experimented in his neighborhood, with some of the experiments greatly frightening his neighbors. He drew many drawings and architectur al diagrams on the window edges and walls of his Woolsthorpe home which included drawings of men, animals, birds and also plants. During this time, he is known to have been influenced by the book; ‘mysteries of nature’ by John Bates (Newton). He had his early education at Skillington and Stoke which is thought to have started when he was five years old. Newton the proceeded to King’s school in Grantham during which time his step father died and his mother went to their Woolsthorpe home (Newton). The mother removed him from school and intended to make him a farmer, but Newton was not interested in farming but had a great thirst for learning. John Stokes, master of the Grantham School and William Ayscough, Newton’s uncle intervened, leading to the decision to prepare Newton for University, which was done in 1661, with entry to Trinity College, Cambridge (Newton). It is at this college where he is thought to have made his mathematical discoveries where he had easy access to the college and university libraries where he spent lengthy hours of study. It is also assumed that it was in the rooms of the Trinity College where he did the experiments of the dispersion and refraction of light, and probably done the one on the pendulum to explain about the earths pull of gravity. The experiment about the falling apple, which Newton said explained about the idea of gravitation, was done either at Boothbay or at the Woolsthorpe house (Newton). Isaac Newton was a very ambitious scientist who did his researches very conclusively and had a firm belief that everything in nature had an explanation in mathematics, but not all scientists during his time concurred with him. He was so engrossed in his work and researches that he did not have many acquitances and did not also marry. When for example he was writing the principia, which is the mathematical principles of natural philosophy in the Latin language, he rarely left his room and ate little food or ev en none at all, had unkempt hair and worn out shoes, and also very rarely went to the chapel. Isaac Newton contributed much through his research and discoveries in many of the fields in which he was involved. In the field of mathematics, his most notable work was in calculus, and other fields of
